Cable internet costs a lot of money. It doesn't matter what company you are with they all nickle and dime you like crazy. Here is how to save money on your bill.
Things You'll Need:
- A Cable Modem you own.
- Assistance from your Cable Internet provider.
- Coax cable
- Network cable
- Step 1
Look on the back of your rented modem for the model and brand name. Write these down on a piece of paper.
- Step 2
Call your cable provider and ask what modems work on their system. Ask if any modem will work or if you need the exact model you have now.
- Step 3
Purchase a modem that has been approved by your cable provider. (Cable
modems cost between $25 to $60 depending on features.) You will make this money back and more over the next year. - Step 4
Hook your new modem up to where the existing modem was. Hook the coax cable from the wall jack (from the cable company) to your modem. Hook your network jack from your modem to your computer or to your router.
- Step 5
Call your service provider for assistance with hooking up your new modem on their end. You will probably need the MAC address from the back of your modem. Ask them to remove the fee from your bill for the rented cable modem.
- Step 6
Return the modem to your service providers offices and you are all set. You will save money by not paying that fee every month.
