When upgrading or installing your AVG Anti-virus software, it's your decision whether to install any of the extensions or add-ons. During installation, you can uncheck boxes next to these items to prevent them from being installed. For instance, on Firefox the AVG Safe Search Extension is an extension that is often problematic, according to Mozilla. It can be removed as part of a re-installation or upgrade.
- Step 1
Select "Add-ons" in the Firefox "Tools" Menu. Select the "Extensions" tab in the Add-ons dialog box. Select the name of the AVG Extension. Select "Disable." Unlike other Firefox Extensions, you cannot simply select "Uninstall" for AVG Extensions to uninstall them.

Download AVG Anti-virus Free Edition 9.0 from the AVG website linked in Resources. Click "Download" underneath "Free Edition." On the next screen select "Download Now." Once you are redirecfed, select "Download Now," on the CNET website. Select "Save File," when prompted and wait for the download to complete.

Double-click the "AVG Anti-virus Free Edition 9.0" listing in Firefox Downloads. Select "Install." Choose "Recommended Installation." When the dialog box displays showing the file for AVG and AVG Extensions and Add-ons, uncheck the check-boxes for all Extensions/Add-ons you do not want to install. Select "OK," then "Finish."

Remove the previous version of AVG. Select "Control Panel" in the "Start" menu. Select "Uninstall Programs" listed underneath "Programs."

Select the previously installed version of "AVG Anti-virus" in the populated list and select "Uninstall." Once the uninstall is complete, select "OK" and Exit Control Panel. Exit AVG by selecting "X" at the right corner of your screen
