Microsoft Windows XP is an operating system that is still used on several home computers. If you have Windows XP on your machine, you can use the Disk Manager to expand partitions on the hard drive. Hard drive partitions are allotted areas of a drive that hold information saved on the computer. You can have one or several partitions. If you have unused disk space on the hard drive or you installed a new hard drive, you can add that space to the Windows XP partition.
- Step 1
Right-click the "My Computer" icon on the desktop and select "Manage." This opens a new window. Double-click on the "Disk Management" icon. This opens the Disk Manager.
- Step 2
Right-click the partition you want to enlarge and select "Extend Volume" from the menu. This starts a wizard that guides you through the process. Click "Next" at the starting menu.
- Step 3
Select the disk to extend. In the text box labeled "Size," enter the new size in megabytes. This window shows you how much disk space you have to extend the partition.
- Step 4
Click the "Next" button to navigate to the summary screen. Confirm all of the options are correct and click the "Finish" button.
