How to Hook a Plasma TV to a Computer

The electronic devices in many homes seem to have all become integrated. Modern plasma TVs, which are capable of displaying high-definition content, are able to hook up to computers. This is quite easy to do, and allows you use your TV as an external monitor for playing all those games or movies you may have stored on your computer.

Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • HDMI cable or DVI cable
  1. Step 1

Determine which type of cable you want to use. Newer computers and plasma televisions typically have HDMI outputs, while older ones will have DVI outputs. Consult your owner's manual for the locations of the ports on your computer and TV, though on laptops they are typically found on the side of the keyboard and on televisions they are found on the back amongst the other audio/video inputs.

  2. Step 2

Using the corresponding cable, connect the computer's port to the input on your TV, whether it be HDMI or DVI.

  3. Step 3

Set the plasma television to the corresponding video channel. These should be labeled as HDMI or DVI on your TV's menu and can be found under "Inputs."

  4. Step 4

Right click the desktop of your computer and highlight "Graphics Options." A submenu should open.

  5. Step 5

Highlight and select "Output to TV." Your plasma television should flicker and display your computer's desktop.
