How to Install Yellow Dog Linux

If you want to install Yellow Dog Linux you’ve landed in the right spot. Yellow Dog Linux (YDL) is a CentOS based operating system developed by Fixstars. It is a free, open source Linux operating system that is built upon the RHEL/CentOS core and developed for the Power architecture family of CPUs.

Here’s how to install YDL:

Instructions
  1. Step 1

    First make sure that your hardware is supported by visiting the “hardware pages” section at the Yellow Dog Linux website - www.ydl.net.

  2. Step 2

    Review the technical advisories within the advisories section at the YDL website.

  3. Step 3

    When you know that your computer is ready for the install, go to the “Downloads” section of the Yellow Dog Linux website and select one of the servers.

  4. Step 4

    Click “View Mirror” next to the appropriate mirror to look through the directories.

  5. Step 5

    Select the appropriate iso directory, go to the bottom of the list, and select the most recent version for your system.

  6. Step 6

    Save the image (Install ISO) on your local drive.

  7. Step 7

    Create a Yellow Dog Linux Install DVD by burning the image as an ISO to a DVD.

  8. Step 8

    Follow the instructions in the Guide to Install.
