Things You'll Need:
- laptop carrying case
- Step 1
Always keep your laptop on top of a flat, solid surface like a desk, hardcover book, or tray. Since laptop computers are more compact than desktop computers, there is less air circulation between its internal components. Thus, its important to keep your laptop as cool as possible to avoid overheating.
- Step 2
To clean the dust from your computer, use a dry cloth. Never use a dampened cloth or sponge since water damage is devastating to most electronics, causing circuits to short out and stop working.
- Step 3
Don't leave your laptop open all day (and night)! Dust, hair, and other little debris can get caught between the keys and dirty up your laptop screen and surfaces as well as funnel down into the cracks of your computer.
- Step 4
Always put your laptop back in its carrying case when you're not using it. That way, in case something terrible happens, like someone spills a drink by your computer or drops it on the floor, your laptop has a better chance of surviving and resisting damage.
- Step 5
Store your computer (in its carrying case) somewhere dry and out of direct sunlight. Keep it in your desk drawer when you're not using it to keep it from being exposed to heat and moisture, a terrible combination for electronics.
- Step 6
Keep your computer up-to-date with the latest virus protection software so that you don't lose your information or get a destructive virus that could permanently destroy your computer.
- Step 7
Back up your files by keeping precious documents, images, music, etc. stored on a flash drive or disc.
