How to Set Up a Printer to Be a Wireless Printer

Wireless printers are a big convenience. They eliminate the need for bundles of wires going from different computers to the printer and allow for much easier access through obstacles, such as walls, doors, and even separate buildings. All you need to set up a wired printer to work as a wireless printer is a small adapter that you can buy at any decent electronics store. The only difference between a wireless printer and a wired printer with an adapter, is that the wireless printer has an adapter built in to its case instead of having one plugged into its usb port.

Things You'll Need:

  • WIreless printer adapter

How To Turn A Wired Printer Into A Wireless Printer

  1. Step 1

Buy a wireless adapter that is compatible with your printer. Plug it into your printer's USB port and install any software for the adapter, if it is not a plug-and-play adapter.

  2. Step 2

Go to the control panel on your computer and open the "Network and Sharing Center." A selection of different options will pop up; click on "Printer Sharing." Then you will see another window that has a tab called "Turn On Printer Sharing." Turn it on and then apply the changes by clicking "Apply" on the bottom right corner of the screen.

  3. Step 3

Go to "View Computers and Devices" and select "Add Printer." After that, click on "Add A Wireless Printer." There should be a list with your printers name on it. Select your printer and then hit "Next." Review all the changes you have made and then click on "Finish." Test out your printer by printing a few pages.
