How Do I Save a Macromedia Flash Video Off of the Internet?

Flash video is widely available on the Internet from sites such as YouTube. It allows you to see scenes from movies, television shows and even home video that have been publicly shared. Downloading and saving flash video from the internet allows you to have access to the files without having to connect to and browse the Internet.

  1. Install Real Player from the Real Player website www.real.com. In addition to using real player to download flash video from the internet, real player can also be used to play media files such as mp3 audio, mpeg video, streaming media in real format, and DVDs if a DVD-ROM drive is installed on the computer. You will need to copy the nppl3260.xpt and nppl3260.dll files from C:\Program Files\Real\RealPlayer\Netscape6 to C:\Program Files\Mozilla Firefox\plugins for versions of Mozilla Firefox higher than 3.0.

  3. Open your web browser. Select the "Tools" menu and select add-ons. Enable the Real Player browser plugin. Not only will the browser plugin allow you to download flash video, it will also allow you to access streaming audio and video in realmedia format.

  5. Mouse over the top of the flash player of any video you are viewing which offer video in Flash format. Look for a pop-up button that says "Download this Video." Click to download the video to your computer. You may also want to download a video conversion tool to convert the videos from Flash format to MPEG format for better sound and video quality.
