How to Install a Linksys Wireless-G Laptop Adapter

While most newer laptops have built in wireless connections, some older models may not. If your laptop does not have a built in wireless card, you need to use an external wireless adapter. Linksys manufactures top-of-the-line wireless and networking products, including wireless adapters. There are two types of Linksys Wireless-G laptop adapters; one is a USB model, and the other is a wireless card. The directions for installation are very easy, and are the same for both devices.

Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Laptop
  • Linksys Wireless-G Laptop Adapter card or USB connector
  • Setup Wizard CD-ROM that was included with product

    Installing Wireless USB Adapter

  1. Step 1

    Close out all open windows on your computer.

  2. Step 2

    Insert the "Setup Wizard CD-ROM" into the CD drive on your computer. The set-up wizard will walk you through the steps of installing your wireless adapter, setting up a password and other settings.

  3. Step 3

    Click "Finish" when you have completed set-up with the Set-up Wizard. Restart your computer and insert your Linksys Wireless-G adapter into a USB port, or your Linksys Wireless-G card into the wireless card slot.

  4. Step 4

    Click on the Linksys Wireless-G adapter icon in your system tray on your desktop. This will open the Wireless Manager, which will walk you through the steps of making your first connection and help you troubleshoot any issues that may arise.
