How to Add Memory to a Desktop

Ever wanted to make your computer faster?
Adding memory to your computer will certainly help.

Instructions
  1. Step 1

Start by unplugging your computer and touching the back of the metal case to lose any static electricity.
First you must remove the side of your Computer.

  2. Step 2

Locate the RAM chip on your motherboard. Is there an extra slot for more RAM there?

  3. Step 3

Look for the label on one side of the RAM identifying the RAM type and size. Normally it's best to get the same kind of RAM for the computer.

  4. Step 4

Some manufacturers allow you to simply search the model number of the computer for the type of ram. If you see DDR2 anywhere on the ram, you will need to install this in pairs, it will already be in a pair. So if you have 2 256mbs and you intend on going to 1gb all together vs 512mb. You will need to buy 2 512mb to equal 1gb total.

  5. Step 5

Buy the two chips, and normal memory is held in by two clips across from each other on the ends of the chips. Pull these away from the ram and simply pull it out carefully. Push the new ram chips in hard enough for the clips to fully lock.
