Instructions
Things You'll Need:
- Access to the internet
- Step 1
Use Google's search for Linux help. Google should be the number one default resource for support. If you have a specific problem such as "Linux drivers for printer xyz" or "connecting Linux to a network" then include those terms in your Google search. There seems to be no limit what Google can find on the internet.
- Step 2
Utilize the many Linux forums available on the web. There are forums for standard Linux usage. There are also forums for Linux distributions. The forums include searching capability which comes in very handy for specific help terms. Keep a few of the forums in the resources section bookmarked for quick access.
- Step 3
The traditional way among Linux developers and users has been to use mailing lists for Linux help. Mailing lists are easy to subscribe as long as you have a valid email address. Mailing lists are also a great way to get plugged into the Linux community. There is a great deal to be learned from Linux mailing lists. In fact most of the Linux how-to's on the Internet were started as mailing lists posts.
- Step 4
A great way to get instant Linux help is using IRC chat. IRC chat is a chat message system that you can login into using an IRC client application. Popular clients include Pidgin, Kopete, and Xirc. Utilizing IRC chat can help you get questions answered rather quickly and usually chatters are present at all times of the day depending on the popularity of the chat channel. A popular IRC chat node is "freenode."
