How to Remove Windows XP Activation

When you install the Windows XP operating system on a PC for the first time, you will be given the option of entering your product key activating your copy of the software. If you choose not to activate the operating system during the initial installation, a reminder window will periodically appear while you are using your computer. In order to remove this activation window, you can edit the system's registry and disable the reminder.

  1. Step

Log on to your PC with an administrator account.

  2. Step

Open the Start menu and click the "Run" icon.

  3. Step

Type "regedit" into the text box and click on the "OK" button to launch the Registry Editor.

  4. Step

Navigate to the HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\WPAEvents directory in the registry.

  5. Step

Double-click on the registry entry labeled "OOBETimer."

  6. Step

Change the current string of letters and numbers to "FF D5 71 D6 8B 6A 8D 6F D5 33 93 FD" and then hit "OK" to save the settings.

  7. Step

Right-click on the "WPAEvents" folder and select "Permissions."

  8. Step

Deny permission access for the "System" listing and click "OK" to save the configuration. The Windows XP activation reminder has now been disabled and removed.
